we just have a simple tradition - we all go home for christmas and the aunts and uncles and cousins all come to my parents' house, we have a big family dinner together, and then go shopping, yes, with the young kids in tow, on boxing day =) thanks for the giveaway!

just ONE favorite tradition?? we have more than i can count and every single one matters so much to me.
maybe my favorite is that the children always go upstairs to my grandparents while the tree is being decorated down here. they don't see the tree until a certain song is played on the piano calling everyone into the cozy candle lit living room. we're german and the biggest part of our celebration is christmas eve. we don't set up a tree until that afternoon. seeing the tree for the first time like that is always magical!

wishing you a happy holiday season!

this might be too simple to be "tradition" but the little details may change eaxch year, depending on where we are and if we can make it home, but our stockings are a long standing family tradition from my grandmothers family. Everyone in her family had a hand-knit stocking, then she continued the tradition for her children and grandchildren until my aunt took over. Now my girls each have one too. (great grand children to Nana who passed on last Jan)

my favorite tradition is still 'stockings first'...my sisters and i were always so excited for our stockings...brimming full, and often fallen off the mantel! my kids also open stockings first!

My favorite holiday tradition is that we have crepes on the Christmas morning before we even get to the presents for my mom's b-day (yes, she is a christmas baby). I am not sure if I will be with her this Christmas but I do know that I will be having crepes to celebrate her b-day no matter what.

Gorgeous fabric! We like to go to the Christmas tree lighting in our town. Thanks for the chance!

My favourite tradition is the stockings at Christmas. Even the adults have one. When you get up you can open your stocking but no presents until after breakfast. So people straggle in bit by bit and slowly open their stockings, ohhing and aahing over their own and others things. There are usually enough treats to keep the kids happy for a few hours and it is so relaxing.

My favorite tradition is to pile the family in the car after dinner and drive around the area to find the most decked out house. We're not big outside light decorators at our house, so it's nice to see some really over the top displays that other folks do! Thanks for the chance to win those lovely fabrics!

We are in transition with family situations strange. The last several years we have gotten together in a nursing home or assisted living. I guess the getting together is the most important tradition.

the velveteen sounds yummy. I have an ancient velveteen skirt I have been thinking of disassembling.

My faorite tradition is a simple Christmas Eve meal with the family, caroling at church, and coming home to open gifts. Christmas day is usually spent with extended family, so it's nice to have this quieter evening with those closest.
Thanks so much for the giveaway! (and what a great sale! I am deciding which bundle I need to coax from the hubby's wallet ;)

Perhaps my favorite tradition is Christmas tree shopping. We're going to farm tomorrow! Hope you're having a lovely weekend.

Our family tradition is the entire family getting together at my sister's for our traditional Christmas Eve dinner.

My favorite tradition is going to church on Christmas eve with my family and then to dinner at my parents house. After dinner, we stay up super late and open all our presents. It makes sleeping in on Christmas day totally doable.

Gorgeous fabric! One of my favorite traditions is the Christmas candy. My mom makes about 20 different handmade candies, 5 or so types of cookies, and several other treats that are only for this time of year. It's a super-fun, super-caloric tradition I love!

Thanks for the chance to enter. :)

Our extended family, 3 generations of aunts, uncles, cousins and kids all get together on Christmas Eve for a big dinner with way too much food. One of my aunts started a raffle tradition which we continued after she passed away last year.
best wishes

One night after school finishes for our Chirstmas break, we let the kids stay up late, head out for gelati then go and see some of the fantastic Christmas light displays around Adelaide.

Our lated Christmas tradition is for our older 2 girls to sing in the children't choir during Christmas Eve mass. All the grandmas (3 - 2 regular and 1 great) and grandpa, aunts and uncles attend mass with us and come back to our house for a Christmas Even dinner. That is followed by the opening of presents to and from grandparents and gradkids. This year our 3 daughter will be joining in the choir. Hopefully in a few years so will our son!

oh those velvets are so lovely! a few years ago, once all our kiddos passed the age of believing, we decided to swap stockings in our house, each filling one for another. We've had so much fun with this & now Momma doesn't know everything that will be opened on Christmas morning, so much more fun for me!

Ruth,
Thanks for the giveaway! My kids are missing our Christmas traditions this year because we are under construction (and living here through it)& I don't think we will get a tree for the first time ever!!! We usually go out this weekend (weekend after Thanksgiving)and get a tree so everything is decorated by my daughters bday on 12/3. I think next year we will realize which traditions are most important to us since we are missing most of them. One tradition we won't skip is church on Christmas Eve! :)

My favorite holiday tradition is playing holiday songs while we all decorate the tree.

I love decorating the tree! We go to a local farm market, usually when its snowy, cold and dark, and pick out our tree. We'll be doing that very soon, can't wait!

We have a lot of little traditions, but I think my favourite is lighting candles in the windows on Christmas Eve - to do with lighting the Holy Family on their journey- it creates such an atmosphere in the kitchen when I'm preparing the meal for the next day.

I've just bought some Innocent Crush fabric for delivery to Ireland, including velveteen. I'm so looking forward to getting my hands on it :-)

My favorite tradition is our breakfast on Christmas morning. No matter what we decide to eat, we finish it off with a Butter Kuchen ...totally yummy!

Sheila said...

For me it has to be decorating the tree. We're a rather old-fashioned family, and we wait until the week of Christmas. It's really wonderful to spend the time together getting the house ready...and of course eating lots of goodies in the process!

My favorite tradition is we all gather together at either my sister's or my parents for Christmas dinner. I love that the whole family is there & together :)

Our family tradition is to open gifts Christmas morning and then have a huge homemade breakfast. My 2 boys and one wife, and one girlfriend share the day with us, it is a nice family day.

I'll tell you a tradition from when I was a girl. It was always the rule that my cousins and I couldn't open gifts Christmas Eve until the dishes were done. One year my cousin Doug and I couldn't wait for our moms to get it done, so we did the dishes ourselves (we were maybe 10?). It became a tradition that lasted for years, and it gave our moms a little break.

My favorite tradition is to make the stollen. My mom used to make that every year and it reminds me of the mess we used to make in the kitchen! Fun!

My favorite holiday tradition is waffles with strawberries and whipped cream for breakfast before we open presents!

We like to go to the candlelight service at our church and sing carols.

Thank you for the giveaway!

Thanks again, and Happy Holidays!

What a generous giveaway! We have a couple of traditions. My husband proposed on Dec. 13 while we were decorating the tree. So we like to save the decorating for that day or nearly that day every year. And, we have to watch the old Bing Crosby movie, The Bells of St. Mary. One of the best scenes is when the kids put on their own version of the nativity in a school play. It's so sweet!

Oh, how I would love to win this! AMH is my absolute favorite and I am dying to get my hands on this but can't really afford it right now with Christmas coming. So, my favorite Christmas tradition would have to be how my Dad had my sister and I sit on his lap and read us the Christmas story from the Bible every Christmas Eve. We have now carried on that tradition and my husband now reads the Christmas story from the Bible to our 2 kids on Christmas Eve. And when we're with my parents, my Dad still reads it to us all. It's a nice reminder before Christmas morning of what the season is really all about.

Our family tradition is picking one person to "get" each year. We do this by getting them something they really want and then they have to go on a treasure hunt to find it. We have so much fun doing this. This year it is my SIL turn.

I have just bought the full fat quarter set of Parisville from your etsy shop.

A tradition that I miss - when I was growing up, we were carted off to my father's for Christmas day, and from there, we all went to my uncles. Christmas day consisted of watching all three (well, the three that were around) Star Wars movies that were playing on TV. It wasn't like were all glued to a TV all day, but it was generally on and we could come and go as we pleased to catch our favorite scenes.

Ms. Johnston-Butts said...

And I totally bought some Innocent Crush.

Thanks for the giveaway!

My favorite holiday tradition is watching Christmas movies at night with a fire going in the fireplace and only the lights of the Christmas tree on.

Great giveaway! I had bought some velveteen from you last week or so, and I can't wait to make it into a skirt. I'm probably going to put in another order this afternoon, so if I do, I'll definitely be leaving you another comment. :)

We drive around searching for the most interesting Christmas light display with our kids. Also, my sisters families and mine all gather at our mother's home for Christmas morning brunch to watch all the kids open presents and play the day away. Lots of monkeying around and mayhem but it just wouldn't be the same any other way!

With an elementary teaching background, a love for children's literature and knowing the importance of literacy, this is my favorite tradition. Every year I head to my favorite book store and purchase two Christmas books for our children. Inside the cover of the books, I write to the children about their year and journal about special events that occurred. I also enclose a resent picture with the letter and the books are wrapped and put under the Christmas tree. The books are the first gifts of the holiday. My oldest is in college and my baby (not so much more) is in high school. Every year I sit down and read the letters that I have written and the tears start following. Last year I couldn't bring myself to read the books because I was still hurting from dropping off my daughter at college for the first time. They sure grow up fast...don't they. I look forward to sharing these books with their children some day and passing them along! Happy Holidays to everyone!

Oh, wow. That velveteen is lovely, lovely, lovely -- I've been coveting it since I first saw it. My family's holiday tradition is a viewing of Christmas Eve on Sesame Street every Christmas Eve. We've been doing this since I was maybe 8 or so, and we've continued it even though the "kids" in my family are now 34, 33, and 25. :-)

My dad used to help my mom make kringler, a traditional Danish cookie. Helping them is one of my favorite winter/Christmas memories.

Ummmm... we always have a full hot Xmas lunch with turkey and baked ham... in Australia. Without air-conditioning. I'm pondering a 'cold' lunch for the first time ever this year, and I just can't quite do it (my thoughts go like this: 'okay, cold ham and fancy salads... but I'll just roast some potatoes. And that recipe for a roast turkey roulade looks AMAZING! And we need to have gravy...')

My favorite holiday tradition...
It hasn't been a tradition long as it is only my son's second Christmas, but waking up in the morning with him is pretty sweet.
