Well, time's up for the chance to win the sewing machine for the Old Red Barn Co. giveaway! Thank you so much Dana for holding our hands and helping us make our quilts. It has been a whole lot of fun with good laughs along the way! I thought I would offer yet one more chance at a prize... for the 1786 people that didn't win the sewing machine...
A chance to make another quilt!! I'm giving away 12 half yards, enough to make another quilt top, from Paula Prass' new collection, Summer Soiree. All you have to do is visit my shop, and come back here and leave a comment about what you saw or let me know how you like to search for fabric, by designer or collection, manufacturer or do you just look around and see what you like? I'm always looking for ways to organize my shop to make it easier to find what you are looking for! Giveaway will continue until Saturday, July 11th at noon, good luck everyone! Don't forget to leave your email address or some other way that I can contact you if you win!

Cool fabrics! And I checked out your shop, its really nice. I like to browse fabrics by looking bundles. Sometimes I buy the bundles and sometimes it just gives me an idea for a way to combine fabric in another way!

Traveling Mama said...

Well, I just sent you a message through Etsy and then noticed that you have a blog- a great blog too! I love these fabrics! Since I am browsing your fabrics right now, I can say that I do it two ways. I look at everything you have listed and when I get impatient I just open a second window for my favorite designers! Is that like eating double fisted? :-)

Lindsey said...

Boy you have a lot in your shop! I would probably say I would look by designer because I'd look for something specific. Michael Miller Christmas fabrics or Sandi Henderson. Anyway, I like the look of your brightness in your shop....gets one excited about buying! Wish me luck!

Kris said...

great selection in your shop. Sometimes I just browse a shop or look for a specific designer, but lately I've been doing a lot of searching for a specific colors, so I really appreciate shops that make that easy.

Soo said...

I like to have a peek at your most recent listings to see what new fabrics you have! I also go through the designers and have a look at their ranges and then the sale items, to see if I can pick up any great bargains!

Tanya Whelan's DARLA collection, Full Yard Set made me smile from your shop. I like sorted by designer, I like to search by type of fabric, cotton, linen, Japanese, etc.
Great shop and great giveaway. I am finishing my quilt for the quilt along and would love to make another one!!

What a fabulous giveaway.

Honestly, I find shopping for fabric on Etsy a little irritating because it's not as easy to browse but that's Etsy's issue, not yours. I think you have your shop set up the best way you can given Etsy's limitations. When I shop at stores like yours, I like to look at bundles first, then I look by designer.

Michele H said...

Wow! What a great idea! I love your shop. I think you do a great job organizing it. I especially love that you have a section for full and half yard sets. Sometimes I look for a section with jelly rolls or charm packs and sometimes I look by color. Does that help? Thanks for the great give-away!

Dana said...

I think your shop is organized well. Easy to find just what I need. Plus, you keep all the key words in your titles so they always pop up for me on a search. This Summer Soiree is beautiful!!!!

Evelyn said...

Oh, I swoon for those fabrics! What a nice giveaway!

When I'm shopping etsy for fabrics, I almost always search by color, which is really easy to do. However, I am usually looking for a combo, like "pink red" or "pink orange", and both of those searches turned up empty for your shop. And I know you have some fabrics with those colors!! So I think it would help if you put all the major colors of a fabric into the tags, to make the searching by color more useful.

Otherwise, I love your shop, and your selection of fabrics!

Laura said...

Definately love to search for fabrics by designer. Then I look around for other fun fabrics. I like fabrics tagged by colors too, if im looking for something specific.

Thanks so much!

Hi - if I don't have something specific in mind - I LOVE to see a whole fabric collection in one photo. When I do know what I am shopping for I typically shop by designer.

I am waiting for my bundle of Mezzanine to come, next up Summer Soiree.

Thank you for the chance!

Hi, great stuff in your shop. I really enjoyed browsing. I usually browse through by bundles first, then I check the sales, (who can resist a good sale?) then, if I am looking for something specific, then I will hunt through the designers. Thanks

I'm going to have to add your shop to my favorites! I took a look. I generally search and look at fabric bundles. I'm new enough to sewing to not know designers/manufacturers yet, so I just look at bundles and go from there.

Pumpkin Head Baby Co said...

Ooh, I have been waiting for this line to come out! I prefer to shop by line or designer. But sometimes I just look around cause you never know what you are going to find that you love regardless of who designed it.

I love your shop and your excellent at grouping the sets... I like to shop by Collections and my types of fabric.... plain- polka dots, floral... my email is LeeLaa19@aol.com

Lots of yummy goodness you have! I like to just look. And since I'm a newbie, I don't know designers and manufactures yet. The only thing that I thought could be be better is separating the patterns. Bag patterns all together, kid stuff together, guilt patterns together. But other than that, I'll have to bookmark you when it's time to shop for some yummy goodness!

Sarah said...

Wow, I love the selection in your shop! I've definitely bookmarked it. Since I mainly quilt and make handbags, I love buying half yard sets. Occasionally I'm looking for a specific fabric, but I can just use the search your shop function to see if you have it. What a great giveaway! Since I just won Dana's sewing machine, I'm either getting greedy or on a roll or won't win anything else for a very long time. :-)

Jaime said...

You have a lovely selection! I also love your banner! I love to search usually by designer or collection. sometimes I just browse but mostly I do it the other ways. It looks like your shop is very easy to navigate!

Thanks for doing such a great giveaway! I have been waiting and waiting for the debut of these fabrics, I have a houndstooth weakness :)

I like the way you have bundles of fabric together, so you can see how they combine. I also like shopping by color, so I can combine fabrics that aren't necessarily from the same designer, but have similar colors.

Would love to win... am still finishing my Old Red Barn Co quilt and already am eager to find new material for another. The ORBC one is my first ever, and I am hooked!!!

Thanks for the giveaway.

I always appreciate "Fabric Bundle" with good color combination. You have quite few of them in your Esty shop look really yummy :) When I look for the fabrics, I usually go by the designer's name, then line's name. If I win this bundle, I would like to try to make the one Dana was hosting for the Quilt Along, as I missed that one!!

i like the way you fold and organize your fabric collections that allow the imagination to go wild. i also like how some of the collections (like the garden collection) are taken outside in natural settings. i want to handquilt outside in the shade of the tree.

I love your fabrics! Unfortunately I don't think I have any novel advice for you. Usually when I shop etsy for fabric I browse the 1/2 and full yard sections or I am looking for something specific. For when I am looking for something specific it is usually easiest if they are separated by designer and not grouped with other designers. Other people I know are usually looking for specific colors or color combos, so like other people have suggested maybe groupings by color could be helpful. Hope this helps!

Jilliene Designs said...

Yeah! So happy to find another fabric resource on Etsy! Your shop is beautiful as is the new fabric you have in stock. I search by 1/2 yard and full yards sets and then I cross reference by price including the shipping. Money is tight right now so I have to consider the best value for the beauty.

I love the Apple collection by TT!! Usually I search by collection...I love seeing things together. I was definitely drawn to the Apple collection because of the colors, and seeing it all neatly stacked on each other.

Wow, I really like all the color in your shop. Fabric is like scrapbook paper to me--you can never have enough! I like to sort by designer when deciding what to purchase. And, I could spend an entire day enjoying the fabric in your shop!

kate said...

Your shop is lovely. I like to browse by fabric bundles first, then by designer. But, if you mix designers in your bundles, is there a way to tag the listing so that it would come up for both designers?

Terri said...

I love your shop. I think your search feature is fine - I had no problem finding what I wanted. I do want to ask, though - do you have a way to help color-challenged folks with color coordinating? Because I am very color-challenged - it takes hours for me to pull something together.

Thank you for hosting such a great giveaway!

you have a great variety of fabrics. i usually search for fabrics by designer or collections but have found great lines i like through bundles too.

Wow you have some great fabrics. I have never ordered fabric online but I am sure I will be ordering from you soon. You have so many more options than the local quilting stores. I am so glad I found you.

Thanks for a chance at a great giveaway - I'd love to make another quilt along quilt. I also checked out your shop, LOVE that Deer Valley in Grass...it is on my shopping list (and you have a great price too!) I like to search for fabric buy designer and colour. Also love bundles because it gives me ideas about what 'goes' together as I don't often get to see fabric in person. I especially like bundles that mix different designers and different fabric lines.

Tressa said...

I like your shop. I find myself browsing for fabrics via color and what strikes by fancy so at times I really like to see all the fabrics in a collection so that I can see if I like it or not.

Your shop is great. I tend to browse through and just find what catches my eye. I'm still trying to get used to the shift of the larger prints and brighter colors. Haven't been brave enough yet to buy any of it...

Jane said...

Hi Ruth,

What fantastic fabrics you have for sale, so much variety - I'll certainly be paying you a visit sometime soon!
Anyway, to answer your question, I find fabric sites harder to search when they are based on designers as I'm just getting into this quilting caper and cannot yet navigate my way around by designer.
I often seem to search for a particular colour or pattern of fabric for a specific purpose.
I love that you have lots of packs because sometimes it is hard to see which fabrics would work well together on a computer screen.
Thanks for the giveaway!

If I know what I want, then browsing by designer works great. If I'm just poking around, I really appreciate a section of *new* fabrics, where new means released in the last 2-3 months. Finally, I'm often looking for a specific color, so being able to browse by color is a major plus (and not always possible if you just leave in designer names for fabric where green can go by any of 1000 names!).

-Rossie

Unknown said...

I also checked out your shop. I try to look by designers, but I'm new to the whole sewing blogging community and to etsy as well. So I'm trying to find my groove. It still seems a little difficult to navigate, but that's probably my inexperience. This is a great giveaway! Thanks so much!

Erin said...

I like your shop. I normally just browse to see what's available. Sometimes if I'm looking for something specific I'll do a search by designer or collection name, but otherwise, I like to keep my options open.

Jaime said...

I love your shop! Browsing big sets is my favorite (especially since I've started quilting). Sets with just 2 fabrics are really fun for making purses or clothes were you want an accent fabric to pop.
Shopping bundles is for me is also the quickest way to see new fabrics lines and designers. When I find something I love I may move over to the shop by designer and see more.

I browse by looking for bundles. Then I look for colour combos that catch my eye. I only search by designer if I am looking for something specific.

I love your fabrics. I've been to your shop before- I remember really liking your banner.

I shop for fabrics by size, then color. There are certain designers that always catch my eye- Dewberry, Butler, Prass, Horner, but I don't search exclusively for them. I feel that if I did that, I'd be closing the door on all the other wonderful fabrics out there. :) So yeah, I just look around and see what grabs my eye.

Thanks for the chance at this giveaway! I would love to make my second quilt out of these fabrics. *g*

Hi Ruth! I love your shop and visit and order often! I love the fabrics you offer. You always seem to be up on the designer fabrics and have just what I want at a good price. I also love your presentation when you send the order. I remember when I got my first order from you it was nicely placed in a clear plastic bag with paper lace around it and a beautiful bookmark which served as your business card (which I still use!). What a way to make a first impression! I like to search by designer. It would be cool to be able to search for a certain line of fabric too, but I don't always know the name of the line where I do always know the name of the designer. Hope this helps! I love looking for fabrics by designer name and/or collection. I love that you have collections sold together and that you show all the fabrics together as well as their individual photos. That makes it especially helpful when I haven't seen the line before. Our fabrics stores don't carry EVERY line.

I saw you have the other catagory and in there was a jelly roll. I would make Layer cake, jelly roll etc, their own category.

Love the new Summer Soiree collection!!

Funny, I found your etsy shop yesterday and added a few things to my cart, to order at the end of the week (payday!).

I'm a new quilter, just learning. I've been making potholders and pillows so far, but want to move onto baby quilts. So far, I've mostly been buying sets of fat quarters and scraps, because those are best for the potholders I make! I sponsor two girls in Albania through World Vision, so I want to make them doll blankets next!

When I buy fabrics on etsy, which is where I buy most of mine, I search by artist. I've been liking bright colors lately, since they are so summery! I really like Sandi Henderson and Joel Dewbery right now, and also Amy Butler. I also like the Krakow line by Mark Lipinski. Right now, I buy charm packs, as well at the FQ's and scrap sets...

Hi! Love the fabric in your shop! In general I like it when fabrics of the same line are listed together so I can see the combinations. I often shop by designer so it is helpful you have listed those at the side, even though they are grouped. I can't remember which shop I was in lately... I was so impressed with their organisation.. If I come across it again I will let you know, but they would let you search on designer, on manufacturer, or on colour! Amazing. I bet that takes a lot of organizing! But I most of all just browse.. and your shop does fine for that! Looks bright and breezy. I like it!

I just bought something from your shop so I can tell you exactly how I found it. :) I typed in a search for the name of the fabric collection so I could find everything you had to offer all at once.

And then I went to the sale section to fill up my flat rate envelope! I really liked that they were all together in one category…I picked three in about one minute and hit the check out.

I also shop by designer but this leaves out any bundles since they are in a different category (etsy's fault since they won't let us put the same listing into two categories.) So, I do a search by designer and everything pops up. Fabric shopping is serious business! :)

I like to buy fabric bundles because colors differ so much on the computer. I like to know when fabrics go together, especially if they're not in the same fabric line/collection. In general, I prefer to buy half yard bundles (more variety and just the right amount of each fabric) but not when the cost per yard is more than regular yardage.

Anyway, thanks for the chance to win this fabric...it's so beautiful!

I love buying in bundles - so that tag would be important. but having bundles under designers will be better - I can easily select the bundle without going through the whole list which most online shop is doing now.

I love the houndstooth by Paula Prass. Your shop is full of great finds! Generally, when I shop for fabric I search using the name of designer. Ex. Heather Ross, Alexander Henry, etc. I might use color if needed.

Thanks for the awesome giveaway.

You have a lot of great collections! I usually shop by designer and/or collection, but I also like the previews of whatever you put on the front page. Then, of course, I hit the sale section.

I like to browse by designer when I know the exact fabric I want. But most of the time I just browse by pictures until I see somethign I like

Hi! I'm in the midst of my first quilt... I think I've found a new addiction! Love your etsy shop fabric selection -- I'm so excited about my next quilt, and I haven't even finished my first one!

I really enjoyed reading the comments by other, more experienced fabric-lovers... as a newbie, I would say that I browse by bundles -- that way, I feel more confident that the fabrics will coordinate.

Thanks for the great give-away!

I like to shop my designer, and to see what's new.

What a nice give away!! I just popped over to your blog from the Old Red Barn Co. I prefer to search for fabric by price (if you have a sale, I will click on that first!) and then by fabric line.

Just the last 2 days, I have been looking for designer fabrics that I can purchase for a good price. My google searches resulted in disappointing results and lists of fabrics stores to commute to. However, when Dana listed this website on her blog, I checked it out and found...exactly what I was looking for! Even better actually because the prices are more than reasonable. I would love to win this incredible prize! I will also definitely tell everyone I know about this user-friendly website with great prices and gorgeous fabric!! Love the Summer Sidewalk Sale-Thanks!

Generally, I look for fabric on quiltshops.com and have a specific name of a fabric in mind, then add to it as I see others. I haven't shopped for fabric on blogs much yet at all. But your store on etsy looks very nice - I also generally go to the sales first! Thanks - you have beautiful fabrics!

Oh, I love your Etsy shop! I usually search by designer but also love to look at half yard fabric sets. A search by color would also be helpful. I have been thinking about making a red and aqua quilt. A color search would definitely be useful for that.

Amy R said...

I like to "see" a whole fabric line. Sometimes when shops just show little corners, it's just not enough. I also like to see full lines because sometimes I'll choose just one colorway within a line. I really like looking at a full line - because I know all will coordinate. I don't like shops that group things by yellows or blues or flowers, etc. I like seeing lines. The line you chose to give away is beautiful, btw, and I love the designers you carry in your shop.

Marsha said...

Beautiful fabrics. I always try to find what is new out there. I usually buy my fabrics according to colors. Like right now I am working on a Christmas project so I am hunting down greens, creams, and reds.

andrea said...

I like that you have coordinating fabrics grouped together in bundles to buy. It's also nice that when you click on an individual fabric that you have the other fabrics thumbnailed next to it.
It's so nice of you to offer a consolation prize

EB said...

Checked out your shop, cool collection of fabrics! Sometimes I like to search by designer like you have it set up, sometimes it helps to have color choices. That way if I'm looking for something in a particular shade I can click on that color choice also if I'm looking for type of fabric, it helps to have that option too.

I love all the bright colors of your fabrics. I love that you have fabrics for a good price that I would never be able to find where I live

I like to search by designer - I think you are organized very well and might suggest to have your pre-cuts in a category.

I absolutely love the 1/2 yard sets. They all look good enough to lick. It's socially acceptable to lick fabric, right???

I was just browsing your shop this morning hoping to find something to make a blanket out of. Maybe I can win your giveaway and finally make Dana's quilt!!

Very nice fabric...I love the colors! I also love the full bloom line in your shop.

I had a blast quilting along with everyone :)

This collection is amazing - thank you for the chance to win it! I'm glad I found your shop. I like all the "sets" you offer as half yards and fat quarters - that's usually what I'm looking for.

Mezzanine by Patty Young is gorgeous! I think that is my new favorite! I like it that you show picture of collections...and then also that you have it listed by designer...because if you like something sometimes you'll like other stuff by them that you haven't seen before!

I love the garden fabrics you have in your summer sale. May have to come back and shop.

I love the fabrics you have in your shop. It was easy to navigate. I am new to the designer fabrics so I wasn't aware of what was even available until a few weeks ago! And now that I know, I search by designer. I feel less lost that way. I do like looking at bundles a lot as well!

Whitney said...

I too like how you combine like fabrics into bundles but it is also nice to browse seperately by designer if you are looking for a specific fabric. I just love the new Paula Prass - I am a houndstooth fanatic and can't wait to get my hands on it!

Leisel said...

Ummm, I freakin love everything in your store! If I had more money (or if my Etsy shop was more successful ;0) I would buy one of everything! I love buying sets of fabric, like 1/2 yard sets, so that is where I like to shop. . . in the 1/2 and full yard sets.

karen said...

You have a really nice selection of fabric. I like to look by colour, geometric, floral, holiday, novelty/children as well as by designer. I like to check out new fabric and sale fabric.

Mariesa M. said...

I think the way you have a picture of the whole line of fabric together is really nice. Most shops have a picture of them seperatly and I hate that because you can't see how they look side-b-side. I think you should have your newer fabrics listed first though. That's just my personal preference. I hope I win the fabric!

I checked out your shop too and I love the 1/2 yard and 1 yard bundles. I always look at those first becuase it gives me an idea of what fabrics coordinate with each other. I am drooling over your Anna Marie Horner set. Yummy!
I also like to search by designer.

Oh, I love Patty Young's new fabric, Mezzanine! It looks so pretty. Can't wait to see some of this in person. :)

I love the colors from the Mezzanine collection you carry. Bright but not neon colors, esp. the pinks. Those are hard to find in a shade of non-eye-damaging brightness.

WendyLou said...

Great prices on your etsy site!! I'll be back, for sure!! I usually just browse around. I'm most interested in color and pattern. Designer's names are usually where I start, then branch off from there.

Most times, I just browse so I love when collections are bundled, like you have. I think your shop is well organized, easy to browse. Thank you for such a lovely giveaway! Beautiful fabrics!

These fabrics are beautiful! *drool* =]

I search for fabric on Etsy by designer and/or by color.

Thanks for a fantastic giveaway!

pippinsequim said...

When I am looking at fabric, I just browse and browse and browse. I try to look at every single thing in the shop. I don't get to spend too much money on fabric, so I only decide to buy something when I absolutely MUST have it. When I am shopping online, if I find one thing I have to have, I am more likely to buy additional things to save on shipping. (Or at least I tell myself I'm saving money.)

In your shop I liked the "Full Bloom" bundle and the "Spotted Owl" fabric.

Jenny H said...

Wonderful shop, I just added you as a favorite of mine so I'll remember to come back next time I need fabric. I like to look at the bundles to get my mind thinking, and then I browse to see what else stores have to offer. When I'm looking for specific fabrics, listing by designer or line is really helpful. Sometimes I also do searches by color.

Thanks for the great giveaway!

I hadn't seen this line yet - so pretty. I love searching by designer...somehow it's easier for me. I love that you have fat quarter sets too. Sometimes it's nice to just get a little bit of each fabric.

I guess I like to search by color or type of pattern. For example the line you're so generouly giving away, I've never heard of it. It's beautiful, but I wouldn't find it unless I'm searching by color or pattern.

Thank you!

Karen said...

Your shop is great. I like to shop by designer. But once I get to a shop I generally have to look all over the place and see everything. I also love bundles and am always looking for a deal so I always check out sales too.

Katrin said...

I like to shop fabric by colour rather then by designer.
Your shop looks great - a lot of beautiful fabric.

Marianne Penner said...

Really nice fabrics. I like the Sidewalk Sale feature to use for searching. When I buy fabrics online I usually look for 1/2 yard or yard fabric sets.

Julie S said...

I love to shop by collection. I must admit, I don't shop Etsy for fabric. I prefer sites that allow me to choose, say, 100 fabrics per page, or whole collections on a page. I don't like having to scroll through pages and pages. That said, you do have lovely fabrics on your site, ones I have not seen before!

Dkole said...

I generally look for fabrics by designer. But, I think it is nice to look at it by color. You have a ton of fabric in your shop. I was loving that Vicki Payne home deco fab. I wish I had something to recover.

Tara said...

Oh, it is all so heavenly. Where to begin? I truly appreciate the bundles and linking other fabrics in the line to display. I am not as familiar with specific lines or designers so I like to browse and see the full possibilities. It is all so yummy. You are now bookmarked to come back again and again.

Hilda said...

I like the way you have your Etsy shop categorized by designer, and also by full/half yard sets. Depending on what I'm searching for I can go right to the section I need. Thanks for the giveaway opportunity, too!

Came over dejectedly from Dana's blog...
Nice looking give-away!

I usually first look for fat quarters and/or kits for quilts. Or I'll look by color. Or I'll just wander from item to item.
Really it depends on why I'm there - if I'm really looking for something specific or if I'm just "window shopping". =-)

But I would LOVE to win me some Paula Prass! (hint, hint)

Elizabeth said...

You have such great taste! I'd buy out your whole shop if I could! I usually start shopping by looking at bundles then I branch out into designers. Sometimes I like to search by a particular color too but I don't do that too often.

Finally some one has Summer Soiree! I've been waiting very unpatiently for this fabric to be available! I'm hoping to make the Old Red Barn quilt along quilt with the Manhattan color scheme! I usually look randomly at fabrics only if I'm looking for something specific do I search by designer.

CJ said...

Oh those new fabrics by Paula are so PRETTY! When I go to your shop I really like the combinations that you make up that are not from the same designer. Combinations that I might not have thought of or can't picture because I don't have the fabric in front of me. They always surprise and delight me. If I was in a fabric buying situation I would be shopping at your shop for sure! I like to search by manufacturer as well.

Being the domestic goddess that I am, (LOL) I wear aprons all the time. Love the domestic goddess apron! As for searching for fabrics, it depends on what I'm doing. Sometimes it's designer, sometimes color, sometimes theme, etc.

I like to browse fabrics by collection. Its really helpful for me when trying to match colors and themes since its hard to tell what stuff really looks like online. Great fabric selection and I hope I win!! Thanks! Kristen

I LOVE all the fabrics you had in your shop! They make me happy :) and also make me want to start a new quilt! I would love to win your 12 1/2 yards and use it to go back and do the quilt along at the Old Red Barn.

Great fabric choices, and really great prices. I actually love buying FQ or half yd bundles in a mix of designers (like you had Amy Butler with Sandi Henderson). I like it when other people put together fabrics that I wouldn't necessarily think of putting together on my own. Like 4 or 6 different fabrics together in a bundle can be a great inspiration.

Anyway, thanks for the giveaway!

I usually buy fabrics by browsing around a shop...feeling everything and waiting until patterns catch my eye! But I have to say, I love how you have all your fabrics in your etsy shop. I love the photos of the various prints stacked on top of one another and I'm loving that snowflower collection! Thanks for the chance to win a prize!

Melanie said...

You've got a great selection of fabrics in your shop. When I'm looking for something, I usually know who the designer is, so that's the way I shop. I also always take a look at the sets (yard, half yard, or fat quarter) and see what's available there. I think the biggest downside of Etsy is that you can only view a limited number of items on each screen. I prefer to view as many items as possible at once.

Thanks for hosting such a great giveway!
